THIS IS A TYPICAL MAHARASHTRIAN DISH MADE SPECIFICALLY IN THE HINDU MONTH OF CHAITRA,WHICH IS CELEBRATED AS THE BEGINNING OF SPRING.
Ingredients:-
Chana Dal(Split chickpea)-1 cup
Raw Mango(Kairi)-1
Curry Leaves-3-4
Green Chillies-1-2
Chopped Coriander Leaves-For Garnishing
Salt-As per taste
Sugar-Just a pinch
Tempering:-
Oil-1 Tsp.
Mustard Seeds-1 Tsp.
Cumin Seeds-1Tsp.
Asafoetida(Hing)-1/4 Tsp.
Turmeric Powder-1/4 Tsp.
Method:-
1)Rinse the dal 3-4 times in water,&soak it in warm water at least 4 hours,overnight preferably.
2)Grind the soaked chana dal roughly with green chillies & salt.DO NOT MAKE A SMOOTH PASTE.
3)Grate the raw mango(Kairi)
4)Mix the ground chana dal,& grated raw mango together.Adjust the quantity of the grated raw mango as per the sourness of the raw mango,& as per your taste.
5)Adjust salt & sugar as per taste.
6)Heat 1Tsp.oil in a pan,Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds, Asafoetida,turmeric powder,& curry leaves to make tempering.
7)Let the tempering cool don a little bit,Pour the tempering on dal mixture.
8) Mix well,Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
You can eat this dal as it is.
